Jiang Zemin Inspects Beijing's General Armed Police Force
At the advent of the Spring Festival, Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, state president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, yesterday came to inspect the 11th detachment of Beijing's general armed police force. On behalf of the Party Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission, he extended cordial festival greetings to all its officers and men of the armed police force. Jiang encouraged commanders and soldiers to persistently use Deng Xiaoping Theory to arm their minds, strictly administer the armed police, strive to build the armed police force into a powerful and civilized armed force loyal to the Party, the motherland and the people.
While receiving cadres of the army, Jiang delivered an important speech. He said, in recent years, the armed police force has made fresh progress in strengthening ideological and political construction and intensifying training and management.
Jiang noted that at present, the overall situation of our country is favorable. We have withstood the tests of the impact of the Asian financial crisis and the serious flood disaster, maintained sustained growth of the national economy and social and political stability, cadres and masses at large have reinforced confidence in their continued advance. In the new year, our reform and construction drive will take new strides forward. Major activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of New China and Macao's return to the motherland will further call up the national spirit and inspire the whole Party, the whole army and the people of all nationalities of the country to work hard and in high spirit for achieving the magnificent goals set by the Party's 15th National Congress.
