Jiang Zemin Inspects Review Troops for PRC's 50th Founding Anniversary

  President Jiang Zemin inspected July 23 the review troops from the army, navy and air forces, as well as from the armed police, people's militia and reserve forces who are to participate in the dress parade for the 50th founding anniversary of New China, October 1.

  Jiang, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that the military review at the 50th founding anniversary of New China will demonstrate to the world the Chinese military forces' tremendous achievements in the revolution, modernization construction and the nation's stability, and display the new outlook of the powerful, civilized and triumphant forces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

  The military review will also manifest the PLA's firm determination and powerful force in safeguarding the motherland's security and reunification, and in promoting world peace and development, in a bid to display the strength and might of the country and army, and inspire the spirit and morale of the people, Jiang said.

  The military review will further inspire all the members of the Communist Party of China and people of all China's nationalities to push ahead the great cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in an all-round way.

  The top officials accompanying Jiang on his inspection included Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Zhang Wannian and Minister of National Defense Chi Haotian, as well as other members of the Central Military Commission.

  At 9:00 am, Jiang called on the officers and men of the review troops in the suburbs of the capital.

  Jiang said that China has two major happy events to celebrate this year: one is the 50th founding anniversary of New China, the other is the return of Macao to the motherland. Therefore, the grand celebrations are of great political significance. (Xinhua)
